Most people in Dubai should buy the IQOS ILUMA i ONE. It is the newest all-in-one device, and on the official UAE site it lists at AED 150 — thirty dirhams less than the older ILUMA ONE it replaced.
That sounds wrong. Newer things cost more. Not here.
So before you compare feature lists, compare the price tags. That one check saves most buyers money and gets them a better device at the same time.
Buy the IQOS ILUMA i ONE if you want the lowest price and pocket-sized simplicity. Choose the IQOS ILUMA i Standard if you want the touch screen, Pause Mode and FlexBattery. Buy the original ILUMA or ILUMA ONE only if you find one discounted well below the newer model.
Why do these three names confuse everyone?
Because there are not three devices. There are six.
IQOS ILUMA came first. IQOS ILUMA i arrived in March 2024 and kept the same heating system while adding smart features on top. Each generation has three body styles.
Here is the whole family in four lines:
- ONE — all-in-one. Nothing to carry but the device.
- Standard — a Holder plus a Pocket Charger, two pieces.
- PRIME — the premium version of the Standard, nicer materials.
- The “i” — tells you it is the newer generation, not a different shape.
So “ILUMA vs ILUMA ONE vs ILUMA i” is really asking: old generation or new, and one piece or two? Answer those two questions and you are done.
All six run on the same TEREA sticks. None of them work with HEETS. There is no heating blade inside an ILUMA device, so a HEETS stick simply will not heat.
What did the ILUMA i generation actually add?
The heating system did not change. Both generations use the SMARTCORE INDUCTION SYSTEM, which heats the tobacco from inside the stick. No blade, no residue, no cleaning tool.
What changed is everything around it.
FlexPuff: up to four extra puffs, sometimes
FlexPuff watches how you puff. If the stick is not finished when the session ends, it can add up to four more puffs inside the same six minutes.
Here is the part nobody prints. It does not fire every time, and it never fires on a session where you used Pause.
Pause Mode: eight minutes to take a call
Put your session on hold, come back within eight minutes, carry on. Miss the window and the Holder shuts itself off.
Pause Mode is on the ILUMA i Standard and the IQOS ILUMA i PRIME only. It is not on the i ONE. Several UAE shops list it on the i ONE anyway, which is how people end up disappointed.
FlexBattery: more sessions now, or a longer life later
Two modes. Performance gives you up to three sessions back to back without pausing. Eco stretches the Holder battery’s lifespan by up to a year, according to IQOS, if you stay in Eco the whole time.
Heavy user today, or a device that lasts longer? Pick one.
The touch screen: what it tells you
Preheating progress. Time left. How many sessions you have. Small things, but you stop guessing.
It also changes how the device looks, which matters to some buyers — the Electric Purple finish is the current talking point in Dubai.

What does an ILUMA actually cost to run?
The device is the small number. The sticks are the big one.
On the official UAE site, TEREA lists at AED 20 for a single pack and AED 200 for a carton of ten. A pack a day is roughly AED 600 a month. An AED 150 device is a rounding error against that.
Which is why flavour choice matters more than device choice over a year. TEREA Japan editions are the usual pick for menthol drinkers in the UAE.
The regional ranges are where people find their favourite. TEREA Indonesia runs bolder and sweeter, and it is the range that moves fastest in Dubai.
If you want something steady you can order every week without thinking, the TEREA Swiss line is the safe daily choice. Every one of them works in every ILUMA and ILUMA i device — compatibility never changes by market, only the flavour list does.
So which one should you buy?
Buy the ILUMA i ONE if you want the lowest price, you carry your device everywhere, and a screen means nothing to you. Twenty sessions per charge, one object in your pocket. At AED 150 list it is the easiest recommendation on this page.
Buy the ILUMA i Standard if you want the touch screen, Pause Mode and the battery modes. You are paying AED 90 more than the i ONE for information and control.
Buy the ILUMA i PRIME if the finish matters and AED 400 sits comfortably. Same features as the Standard, better materials.
Buy the original ILUMA or ILUMA ONE only if you find one properly discounted. At list price you pay more for fewer features, which makes no sense.
Who should skip all of this? Anyone who does not already use tobacco. These are devices for adults who already smoke, nothing else.
Why do heavy users often prefer the cheaper device?
This one surprises people.
The two-piece system gives you two or three sessions before the Holder goes back in the charger. The all-in-one gives you twenty.
So if you get through most of a pack a day, the “basic” i ONE keeps up better than the device that costs more. The two-piece wins when you want several sessions in one sitting, or when you want the screen. It does not win on endurance.
Buy for how you actually smoke, not for the tier.
Already own an ILUMA? Should you upgrade?
Probably not, if it still works and you rarely get interrupted.
Upgrade if Pause Mode solves a real problem for you, or if the battery modes appeal. Otherwise your current device heats the same sticks at the same temperature and nothing about that changes.

Four things move the price: the market the device came from, whether it is a limited edition, how long it has sat in stock, and whether the seller is a registered UAE retailer.
